Indeed, one of the best biographies around on Yugoslav President and Marshal Josip Broz Tito. The story of a man of action, boundless humanity and achievement.

A good overview of Stalin's nemesis.

MacLean was Churchill's representative to the Yugoslav partisans. He came to view the partisans as the only effective opposition in Yugoslavia to the Germans and Italians. The chetniks often sided with the Croat Fascists and Germans. MacLean was also a personal friend of Tito's and so you won't get any bad stuff about the old man. You won't hear of how the Yugoslav Ambassador betrayed Nagy and other Hungarian patriots to the Soviets. You won't hear of how Tito bankrupted the country during the last part of his rule. What you hear is the story of the emergence of Tito as the leader of the Yugoslav Communist Party and his leadership and prominence in the non aligned movement (which was not so non aligned).
This is an OK book. You will find the history of this pivotal leader, but you won't get any dirt. The pictures and information shed light on Josef Broz Tito.
