I love the additional information provided by the author

This will be a helpful addition to teaching this non-fiction historical book, although I probably won't use it the way the author intends. I love the additional information provided by the author, Andrea Warren, about how she conducted interviews and how the two interviewees responded and why, and how she went about writing the book. For that reason alone, it's a great buy.

The Author's Guide provides the kind of insight that my 8th grade students need to understand the differences between primary sources and secondary sources. However, Ms. Warren is clearly not a teacher, and while she makes good connections to the CCS standards and has lots of teaching suggestions, it's left to individual teachers to develop lesson plans that meet student needs and address the standards.

About the Author
Gertrud Aub-Buscher taught French at the University of the West Indies, and directed the language centre of the University of Hull. Now retired, she is continuing to do research on French-lexifer Creoles and French language policy in the West Indies. Beverley Ormerod Noakes is an associate professor of French at the University of Western Australia and a specialist in the teaching of Francophone literature. She is the author of An Introduction to the French Caribbean Novel and co-author of a book on women writers from Francophone Africa.

About the Author

KOICHI TOHEI was born in January 1920 and graduated in 1942 from the economic department of Keio University. At the age of 17, he began the study of Misogi and Zen. At the age of 19, he started to study Aikido. At the age of 25, he studied mind and body unification with Tempu Nakamura. He had spread the principles of Ki and Aikido in the USA and Europe beginning in 1953. In 1971 he founded the KI NO KENKYUKAI. The KI NO KENKYUKAI is a foundation that was created to spread the principles involved in becoming one with the universe and how to app1 these principles to the execution of Kiatsu and to one's daily life.

An Inspiring Book

I like this book a lot. For me, it symbolizes a way to increase my own vitality, while also increasing the health of other people at the same time. I look forward to putting what it describes into practice. Although I am not far advanced in this at all, I have seen people who, through their hard work, have really latched onto something real and quite useful for other people. It's a VERY good book about the therapeutic power of ki

I've found this book easy to follow, which is not a common thing when talking about something not all have experienced before. A lots of illness may be cured following this book, but, mainly, you can live a better life using your own ki not only for yourself. The book explains well how to expand your ki and cure diseases without remaing without YOUR own ki, proposing a series of test (as usual in Tohei's books). I suggest all people interested in helping suffering people to buy this book and read it carefully as it's really good.

I found this to be a fascinating read. It had plenty of information about Ki and it's application. I feel this book would be best used in conjunction with a course on kiatsu, if any exist. As always with Koichi Tohei, it is written in a clear style, with enough diagrams to clarify any points without slowing down the reading. Interesting for those training in Aikido as well as those interested in healing in general.

Love and Secrets!

The first chapter in this story brought me to tears. Brooklyn Reeves is a twenty two year old widow, her husband of two years killed in Afghanistan. He was her life, how could she live it now? With the help of a close friend, also a widow, she survives and realizes she needs to leave all the memories surrounding her in her home. She is heading to the little town of Forrestville. Braden is still with her, all around her and in her heart. But she knows he would want her to live her life, so she's going to try.

Parker Morgan has just quit a job that has brought him a lot of money, but turned his stomach and made him ashamed. While he's figuring out what to do next, he has agreed to be "handyman" for a home nearby as a favor to his brother Cole. He's told the renter is a widow. Picturing a white haired older woman, he is shocked at the appearance of this very young, beautiful woman who gets out of her SUV. Their meeting is not cordial, Parker opens his mouth and inserts his very big foot. Brooklyn fires back.....this relationship is going to be interesting!

The story of Cole and Brooklyn is heartwarming. Cole is hiding secrets and wants to leave town to escape them, and Brooklyn is trying to begin a new life and find a balance of loving Braden in her past and opening her heart for something new.

Ms. Valentine, as in all her novels, has a story that grabs you and won't let go until the last page. Her characters are real, have their faults, but feel like friends. I've long been an admirer of Ms. Valentine's work, I love her voice and writing style. Need You Tonight is another example of her very entertaining. Boys Of Summer Series.

Yes, dear reader, this is the book we have all been waiting for! PARKER!!! For six long reads we have been teased and taunted with little snippets of Parker Morgan. He has been the boy to love his sister unconditionally, come to his brother’s side without fail and without question, work like a dog to help his family and, sneak off time and again to who knows where with little to no explanation. For six long reads we have wondered, hypothesized and, speculated about Parker and now we know the truth!!

At 15 years old, Parker Morgan knew his family was in trouble. His mother, Crystal was a train wreck waiting to happen (again and again) who had little to no desire to actually be a mother to her children. After all of the moves, the past due bills they simply couldn’t pay, the collection agencies coming to his door and, going hungry on more than one occasion, Parker decided to take matters into his own hands. Even at 15, Parker knew he was pretty and he certainly never lacked for female attention so when an opportunity to make a lot of money cropped up, Parker took the deal. Over the course of the next several years, Parker used his looks and his body to please his very wealthy clients. As an extremely high-end escort, Parker made loads of cash and ensured that his family had a roof over their, their bills were paid and, they had food on the table each and every day. Given the circumstances they were used to, Parker’s family asked very few questions about where the money was coming from and as the years wore on, Parker was happy to keep his dirty little secret.

Brooklyn Reeves never imagined her life would have something other than a happy ending. The day the men arrived on her front porch to tell her that her husband of three short years wouldn’t be coming home alive, all her illusions were shattered and her world was turned upside down. For two years, Brooklyn has lived with the ghost of her husband and the memories of what they once shared. Her grief has crippled her at times but she is finally feeling strong enough to begin taking baby steps toward reclaiming her life. Her first baby steps? A move to Forestville, find a job, make some new friends and, with any luck somewhere waaaaay down the road, a man to share her life with. No longer a naïve young girl, Brooklyn knows the move is going to be a very hard but very necessary step toward her eventual happiness and she is finally willing to take the risk. Within hours of moving to town, Brooklyn encounters what is very likely the most stunning man she has ever seen, Parker Morgan. By coincidence, Brooklyn has moved into the house once occupied by his brother’s grandmother-in-law – that a thing, right? – and Parker has been enlisted by his brother to look after the new tenant and serve as the property handyman.

From the moment he meets Brooklyn, Parker is certain of a few things: she is desperately sad, she is desperately lonely, she is the most strikingly beautiful woman he has ever encountered and, he is in no way good enough for her especially given his past. With each encounter, Parker becomes more attached to Brooklyn and convinced that she is the woman God made just for him. His feelings for Brooklyn are strong and if he can just drum up enough courage to tell her about his past, then maybe, just maybe she will accept him. For Brooklyn, Parker is a confounding man who, on the one hand runs very hot and other seems to be pushing her away. Her feelings toward Parker grow very, very quickly and this, of course, causes Brooklyn a great deal of guilt and confusion. Though she understands she can’t remain alone forever, Brooklyn also has a hard time accepting that after only two years, she has met a man she can love as much as she loved her first husband. In many ways, Parker and Brooklyn’s road to an HEA is one of the hardest yet to be experienced by one of the Boys of the South.

The Bottom Line: SO. WORTH. THE. WAIT. Parker has intrigued me from the very beginning and Valentine has done an excellent job of keeping Parker’s dirty little secret under wraps the entire time. With all the teasing and the taunting over so many reads, I expected something huge for Parker and that is exactly what I got. I devoured this story and truly had no idea how much I adored Parker until I dove into this read. Though Parker certainly doesn’t think so, he is an honorable and good man who is more than deserving of Brooklyn and her love. Parker has a controlled aggression that I really liked and it played well with Brooklyn, a character who wants to move forward with her life but is almost terrified to do so. Brooklyn is a beautiful balance to Parker and once all the cards are on the table, there is no stopping those two. Additionally, Parker and Brooklyn are likely the hottest couple to date in the Boys of the South series. Parker has a wonderfully dirty mouth that he very much enjoys using on Brooklyn. Seriously, I bookmarked a few of those passages  In all, I am still completely thrilled with the Boys of the South series and have no difficulty recommending it to all NA+ readers.

I really loved this book by Marquitqa Valentine. I have been waiting for Parker's book forever and it was definitely worth the wait! I love all of the BOTS novels, but this one just packed a punch in every way. I could just feel the emotions from both Parker and Brooklyn like it was a tangible thing. I think "Need You Tonight" is an eye-opener for victims of sexual abuse, especially male victims. It really resonated with me. I guess I always associated sexual abuse or sexual exploitation with females even though I know it happens with males as well. I think MV really gave male victims a voice and I definitely have a new respect for those who go through such a terrible thing. While this issue was a big part of the book as well as what war widows face, Brooklyn and Parker had a beautiful love story. I loved seeing what the rest of the BOTS characters were up to as well. I can't say enough about this book. Do yourself a favor and read it...you will be glad you did!!! I received this book as an ARC, but I would post the same thing even if I hadn't.

summarizes the editor’s definition of spirituality as “the irrepressible and universal hunger for meaning…” The editor J. Harold Ellens’ (2014) explains that “it is our psycho spiritual mandate to explore whatever affords us authentic
expansion of our experience and
knowledge concerning that which is
revealed to us in accessing the ineffable”.

This two-volume reference
set allows 37 psychedelic scholars to explore and explain to the reader
the history of the pursuit of chemical paths to spirituality.

This two volume set is the perfect companion to Praeger’s Psychedelic
Medicine: new Evidence for Hallucinogenic Substances as Treatments
(2007). These two approaches to the use of psychedelics share the
mystical experience facilitated by psychedelics as the catalyst for
healing/spiritual growth. Shamanic healers (found deep in human history
and prehistory) used mystical states -induced by a variety of practices
(including psychedelic plants) to help provide psychological, social and
cognitive integration in society (Winkelman, 2014). One also gets a
perspective of how many ancient “mystery rites” that preceded our
current religious practices were psychedelically enhanced, often as part
of an orgiastic celebration. These ritualized ceremonies were
socially prescribed ways to experience the divine. Robert Fuller
elaborates in his chapter Stairways to Heaven: Drugs in American
Religious History: “Drugs were yet another instrument for soliciting
connection with sacred powers”. One begins to understand that a
communal psychoactive experience helps forge a community of shared
divine experiences.

Tom Roberts (2014) makes the case that we are “transitioning from an era
of word-based religion to an era of experience-based religion” in his
chapter. This is good news as we are returning to the mystical
experiences that generated religion as we now know it. The irony is
that this psychedelic approach, much like some early religions, is now
mostly illegal. But if Tom Roberts is right, the paradigm shift is
already occurring: “Children of a future age, reading this indignant
page, know that in a former time a path to God was thought a crime.”
This two volume reference set will give the reader hope that entheogens
will give mankind a chance to reclaim the spirituality of primary
religious experience that has until now, been ignored.

Excellent overview of the use of psychedelics within spiritual practices

This is part one of a two-part review of this publication in the Psychology, Religion, and Spirituality Series published by Praeger.

The idea that psychoactives play a significant role in many historical and contemporary religious practices is not radically new, but the fact that their use is so widespread and that they are practically everywhere one dares to look may come as a surprise to many readers of this tome. The first volume of this brilliant collection of essays by a wide variety of authors is dedicated to the history and practices regarding the use of psychoactives in religion.

The volume starts with an essay by the eminent scholar Thomas Roberts, who argues for three main ideas: 1) that in the current era, religion is changing from the word propagated through scripture to increasingly democratised, personal sacred experiences cultivated within the lives of individuals; 2) that the common core of all religions is mysticism, in other words the idea of a perennial philosophy; and 3) that psychedelics can cause mystical experiences. If we follow this line of argument, the essays in this volume are either illustrations or explanations of these principles.

About the Author

Dale Carnegie was an American self-improvement lecturer and author. Born in 1888, Carnegie was the son of a farmer, and worked throughout his childhood helping his parents with various tasks on the farm. He was fortunate, however, in that he was able to obtain an education in his young adulthood at a nearby Teacher s College. Carnegie worked as a salesman and an actor before he took up teaching public speaking courses at a New York YMCA branch, where he was living at the time. Carnegie s public speaking career took off, and through his success he was able to have several of his books published. His first book, Public Speaking: a Practical Course for Business Men sold well, but his most impressive achievement was the publication of his book How to Win Friends and Influence People, which was an immediate bestseller when it was published in 1936, and has gone on to sell millions of copies in thirty-one languages. Carnegie also worked to open the Dale Carnegie Institute, a learning-ground for those interested in his public speaking and self-improvement techniques, and Dale Carnegie courses are still taught today. Carnegie died of Hodgkin s Disease on November 1, 1955.

A solid, well-researched work.

If a person wants a concise, well-researched, fairly comprehensive book about Abraham Lincoln, it might be a little difficult to find one better than this one. There are a lot of hefty books out about Lincoln, but this one helps a person get to the meat of the matter without having to put in a great deal of time. A fine work, this one.

Well this item is exactly what its listed as, the only problem I had was that it didn't quite match our toilet seat shade color, all in all though, I still get scares from it, so 5stars.

Lincoln must have loved snakes, but you will lose friends.

Ordered a Lincoln book and received a snake toilet seat. I'm not sure what happened in the warehouse that day. I guess if Honest Abe liked snakes, we could learn to appreciate them too. Ended up keeping the snake seat cover because, honestly, both the book and the seat cover would end up in the bathroom. I keep telling guests to visit the Lincoln bathroom. No one will come back over after visiting the toilet. I guess not everyone shares Abe's appreciation of pythons.
