Fantastic play that should get more attention

I was looking for a monologue for my "tween"-age daughter when my Goddaughter recommended this play and loaned me her copy of the script. Pressed for time, I was planning just to skim the pages to get an idea of the storyline and find a suitable bit for my daughter. But, Bennett's play drew me in from the opening monologue and I could not put the script down until I had finished it, tears streaming down my face. Bennett writes in an excellent teen voice and her dialogue and stage directions are so well written, that even just reading the script, you are pulled into her world. Though she includes some bits that might considered PG, she wisely includes alternative dialogue which makes the play acceptable for all ages. And the absolute best part is that, though this play deals with the intensely serious aspects of chronic illness in young teens, the pathos is balanced by comedy which is sensitive to the subject. You can't help coming away from this play a changed person.

Should be embarrassed!

I have used the previous edition of this text in my Brand Management class. This edition contains very few new cases. This is a prime example of authors and publishers extorting money from students by killing the used text market with a new edition that adds little value. If you teach a Brand Management class, do the work of selecting the most appropriate cases and have your students purchase them either either from the Harvard Business School Publishing website or from a publisher that accesses cases from multiple sources.

About the Author
Alan Yau is the creator of Autism Sparks, a website and Facebook Page dedicated to supporting parents of children with autism. He has worked with children with autism for over 20 years in a number of different roles, initially as a counsellor on a summer camp in upstate New York, and more recently as the manager of an autism provision in North London.

Brilliant resource!

Not only is this a great book for parents with children on the spectrum, but it's accessibility makes it an excellent book to give to (often bewildered) grandparents, friends and everyone else who comes into your child's orbit, and who wants to understand them better. Our 8-year-old son Sam has autism, and we have constantly benefited from Alan's teaching, huge experience, knowledge and wisdom, both through his books and his brilliant Autism Sparks website. An absolute must.

I have a cousin with Autism, and this book isn't just for parents. If you want a practical way of understanding and interacting more successfully with people (especially children) that have Autism read this. This book offers great examples that helped me understand how to manage challenges. Good find.

This was a good read for a couple of reasons: It is concise, easy to understand, and full of useful, every day ideas that can be easily applied for the most part. I love the Resource Page and hope to use it soon.
