Short & Steamy!!!

Master the Mistress was a great erotic read. This book was no different from the books in Brides of Kindred series, except that it was shorter. If you’ve read that series you know seduction, sexual encounters, betrayal and dominance will happen, it just becomes a matter of when and how. Kaylee inherited more property and money than she could have imagined. Leaving her home and traveling to Opulex she befriends Lyra. Lyra is the complete opposite of Kaylee and she sees Kaylee as a stepping stone to increasing her standing within the society. Solar has been captured and sold as a slave to Kaylee. Lyra sees her chance at getting everything she wants but what she doesn’t realize is that Solar has seen and heard her plans. Kaylee’s life is in Solar’s hands literally; Solar can either escape or get the revenge he’s seeking, but what he doesn’t expect is the way he feels and reacts to Kaylee. When Kaylee life is in danger will he care for her enough to save her? Can Kaylee bond the Havoc who doesn’t believe in bonding? This novella is a great addition to the BOK series and if you’ve ever wondered what happened to Solar here’s your chance.
Would I recommend it? Yes, if you’ve read the Brides of the Kindred series, you should know what’s in store. This series is very erotic but still packed with action and anyone looking for good paranormal books should definitely give this series a try. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Part of the Kindred universe

Evangeline Andersons story entitled Mastering the Mistress had me jumping for joy as it's part of her awesome Kindred series! Following on from the book Enslaved we meet Solar a Havoc warrior who has been drugged and offered for sale as a sex slave! He is bought by the sheltered and completely out of her depth Kaylee but on the matriarchal planet Solar finds himself on men are considered savage brutes frequently abused and worthless . Kaylee is unsure just what to make of Solar but as treachery stretches out it's hand it's her slave who will save her. Can Kaylee let him go?
This story was previously featured in the anthology Mastered 2 but if followers of the Kindred series missed it this is an excellent opportunity to catch up. Expect a strong alpha male showing the female of his dreams just how important to him she really is and prepare to need a cold shower as this talented author yet again turns up the heat. If this series is new to you and you enjoy hot sci fi then start at the beginning with Claimed and enjoy the journey

Mastering the Mistress

Mastering the Mistress is by the talented Evangeline Anderson and is a Brides of the Kindred novella.

I have read all the Kindred books but ever since i read the last book (Enslaved, book 14) and heard about Thrace's story I have been wondering what had happened to his best friend, Solar. Thankfully I found out in this book. My god, he is so sexy! I loved the story between him and the intelligent but naïve Kaylee. I love their journey and anyone who is looking to read a great book should grab this one for sure.

The story revolves around a very sheltered and naïve Kaylee who is in need of a slave which is where our very sexy Solar comes into the story. Solar is a Havoc warrior who has been drugged and is being sold as a sex slave. When Kaylee buys Solar she is very unprepared about what is going to unfold. Kaylee might be naïve about life but she is very intelligent and quite the match for the worldly Havoc. They sizzle together and you are going to need a bucket of ice just to keep cool through this story. Loved this story!!!

Wonderful Primer for Pomo

I have been looking for a text to introduce students who likely have had no advanced critical theory to the gnarly world of postmodernism. This is the one.
It is clear and concise. It is very well organized. And nothing about it cheats the subject by skimming over difficult concepts.

A simple book on a complex subject

I had always heard the term "postmodernism" and never really put much thought into it. However about four years ago, while I was working on my masters in social sciences the term was brought up again and again. After reading many philosophy type books, I thought the concept was grasped. Consequently, the notion of postmodernism was still nebulous, evasive and elusive. I can recall asking my advisor in my graduate program what defines a postmodern theorist. He simplistically stated that a postmodern theorist will claim he/she isn't a postmodern theorist. Also postmodern theorists tend to not agree with one and other.

Ultimately I felt quasi-comfortable about my knowledge in postmodernism, yet I had a thirst for more. This led me to look for a book on the topic and to "Teach Yourself Postmodernism". I have to say that I am very pleased with the content within the pages of this paperback by Glenn Ward. This book spoke of postmodernism in terms of architecture, art, music, film, history, politics, fashion, languages/words/text and psychology (to list a few). Another thing that I liked about this book is it provided many lucid and tangible examples when discussing concepts. For instance, the movie Blade Runner was used as paradigm of postmodernism.

Modernism was also tackled in this book, mainly because there can't be postmodern without modern. The book also is reader friendly. However, there were some aspects/points that were totally over my head. I reread many components several times and grasped it and other things were just way too abstract for me to clench.

Other cool parts of this book:

* Ideas are broken down by chapters
* Theorists from both modern & postmodern are reviewed
* Books on similar subject matter within a chapter are provided
* There is a chronological list dates of postmodern history
* A glossary of key terms used throughout the book
* As noted prior, many lucid examples of postmodernism

Overall, I felt like this was a great book to learn about not only postmodernism, but society and really the world people live in. The book is only about 232 pages, but Glenn Ward packed a great deal of information in this book. I would be really interested in reading another book by him, just based off this one. After finishing this book, I feel like I have a more solid understanding of the complex perception that is postmodernism.

Power of Thought

This book represents a vast sweep of postmodern culture and thought. Its eight chapters cover eight major areas of postmodernism. Each chapter focuses on the historical development of a major area of thought or culture (typically its roots in modernism), the critical hinges that turned things, the major influences and persons involved, the misconceptions one should be aware of, and finally, critiques of the postmodern attitude and suggestions for further reading. With such a combination, this book aims to make one "savvy".

After dealing at first with postmodern architecture, literature, and visual art (some of the surfaces of postmodern culture), the author gets stuck into philosophical issues such as the deconstruction of meaning and the postmodern self. This is where he would seem to come into his own. He shows great power of thought in relating a vast field of influences to each other. This kind of writing is rare, and makes this, in my view, a very valuable book. An example is his treatment of structuralism -- beginning with Saussure, tracing its subsequent influences, and describing various twists as it transforms into post-structuralism and various streams.

I had two reservations about the book, yet these should by no means detract from its value. Firstly, there is virtually no treatment of the considerable influence of postmodernism on religion, particularly Christianity. Secondly, the author may sometimes assume a basic knowledge on the part of the reader. As an example, he introduces structuralism as "an approach or method". The complete beginner might ask: a method for what? While the answers do emerge, a few explanatory sentences might have fast-forwarded the reader's comprehension.

Finally, where did they find such velvety paper? The book has an unusual feel.

My walls are now covered in Harry Potter characters :)

Loved the book, only setback was that my sister bought it for me for christmas and demanded half the posters; there were only two posters of Harry, and one was on the back of Ron, so if you're planning on hanging the posters on your wall like we did, just know that there's only enough for one of each golden trio member. Then again, I suppose unless you're planning on sharing them, that isn't much of a problem. There were a lot of posters that we loved a ton, including Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, The Weasley twins, Neville, Molly and Arthur, Lupin, Tonks, Luna, Sirius, and a few others as well. Apparently, though, Fred and George aren't related to Bill, because they aren't listed in his 'family' section. Other than that the information, though basic, was helpful and accurate. A must have for die-hard Harry Potter fans like me!

Huge Harry Potter fan and getting this book proofs it. Although many of the pictures here are awesome, I didn't bother ripping them and putting them on my wall. I just kept them in the book. I totally recommend this for HP fans.

About the Author

David Challener went to work for IBM in East Fishkill after graduating with his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois, (Urbana-Champaign). After helping design the first TPM (representing IBM), he became chair of the TCG TSS committee. When the IBM PC division was sold to Lenovo, he became a Lenovo employee, where he has represented the company on the TCG Technical Committee, TPM workgroup, and many other groups, while continuing to chair the TSS committee. Currently he is the Lenovo Board Member for TCG.

Kent Yoder has been working for the IBM Linux® Technology Center since graduating from Purdue University with a degree in Computer Science in 2001. He has represented IBM on the TCG TSS committee and has helped write and maintain TrouSerS, an open-source TSS library that implements the TSS software specification for the TCG TPM hardware.

Ryan Catherman was a member of the Trusted Computing Group, including active memberships in the TSS and TPM working groups while employed at IBM. He was also coauthor of the IBM implementation of Trusted Computing software at its inception and originator of Unix versions of this software. Currently, he works for Opsware Incorporated, a recent HP acquisition, and holds a masters degree in Computer Engineering.

David Safford is a researcher at IBM’s T. J. Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, New York. There he has led security research in numerous areas, including ethical hacking, threat analysis, security engineering, intrusion detection sensors, vulnerability scanning, cryptography, and operating system security. Prior to coming to IBM in 1996, he was Director of Supercomputing and Networking at Texas A&M University, and an A-7 pilot in the United States Navy.

Leendert van Doorn is a Senior Fellow at AMD where he runs the software technology office. Before joining AMD he was a senior manager at IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Center, where he managed the secure systems and security analysis departments. He received his Ph.D. from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam where he worked on the design and implementation of microkernels. Nowadays his interests are in managed runtime systems, accelerated computing (AMD’s name for heterogenous and homogenous manycore computing), security, and virtualization. In his former job at IBM he worked on FIPS 140-2 level 4 physically secure coprocessors, trusted systems, and virtualization. He was also actively involved in IBM’s virtualization strategy, created and lead IBM’s secure hypervisor and trusted virtual data center initiatives, and was on the board of directors for the Trusted Computing Group. Despite all these distractions, he continued to contribute code to the Xen open-source hypervisor, such as the integrated support code for AMD-V and Intel®VT-x. When conference calls and meetings are getting too much for him, he is known to find refuge at CMU.

Not for beginners

I think this book may be useful for people more familiar with the subject.I hoped to understand TPM command to encrypt/decrypt the data/key but find the book hard to read. There are several examples in C but those are evasive and leave me with more questions and doubt. I gave up after several chapters

To be fair, I attempted to read TCG specs (and there are so many!) as well and those were equally confusing to me and it is difficult to satisfy all aspects of TPM. I have more understanding of TPM after reading several chapters but my original questions remained unanswered.

I am one of the authors, so I may be biased

I have run into many people who have used this book and told me they had been lost trying to program the TPM until they found it. It tries to cover several things:
What does the TPM do, and WHY?
What is it appropriate to use the TPM to do?
How can you program the TPM if:
1) You need to talk to it at a low level
2) If you need to write an application that uses it at a high level.

There is a lot of C code in the book for examples.
