Thomson's central thesis is that Heidegger's later thought is animated by the development of a distinctively postmodern sensibility. Iain D. Thomson is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of New Mexico, where he also serves as Director of Graduate Studies. He is the author of Heidegger on Ontotheology: Technology and the Politics of Education (Cambridge University Press, 2005), and his articles have appeared in numerous scholarly journals, essay collections and reference works.

An excellent, lucid explanation of Heidegger's analysis of art and his relationship to postmodernity

Thomson's new book is an extremely good, and extremely helpful discussion of Heidegger's treatment of art--a very important topic for his later work--and his relationship to postmodernism--a very important topic for the history of philosophy. I have read, taught, and written about "The Origin of the Work of Art" many times, but I still found many new and deep insights in this book. And it is written in such clear prose that those unsteeped in the jargon or voluminous secondary literature will still benefit immensely. Moreover, Thomson uses Heidegger's later thoughts about art to critique certain tendencies of postmodernism that he considers pernicious.
I have written a longer review of the book at NDPR which can easily be found by a simple search if you would like more detail. But the bottom line is that this is a great book both for those who know Heidegger's later work well and those who want to know it better.

A very well explained study which is brilliant with footnotes and not irritating endnotes! Well done to the author! I recommend the insightful and current interpretation of Ian Thomson regarding Heidegger and who we are today.
